Puppy Mania!

Hector – 5 month old Shiapoo.

hector-shiapoo-dog-trainingAfter Chris and Michelle Vanderzyden of Ashland, OH contacted me about their puppy, Hector, I was excited to help them as I love working with puppies! It gives me such joy to help new puppy owners to understand puppy behavior, while lessening the overwhelming feeling that an on-the-go puppy can bring to their new home. Not unlike other puppies, Hector was struggling with walking on a leash, jumping on people and his older poodle brother Hercules, and ignoring his human’s commands. Additionally, Chris and Michelle were having a hard time with potty training, with multiple accidents in the house on a regular basis.

Chris and Michelle chose the 9 week training program, as they were highly attracted to working in their backyard, teaching both of their dogs to understand their boundaries without the use of a fence. Hector quickly learned to walk on a leash with control and stop jumping on his guests and brother. With a few changes to their daily routine, his potty accidents lessened within a week’s time! He learned how to sit and stay on and off leash, complete a down on and off leash, come when called, as well as stay on a place when given a command.  Both Hector and Hercules learned their backyard boundaries, and experienced running off leash on the golf course behind their home as Chris and Michelle finally felt in control!

Chris and Michelle were successful because of their willingness to regularly practice and work with Hector, following through with the recommended schedule that I provided to them.

Below are their responses to my follow-up questions that I ask my clients to answer once training is completed. It was a pleasure working with Hector, Hercules, and their humans!

What was life with your dog like before training?

“Our new dog was out of control on leash and off. It was hard to walk him and he was not very obedient to any commands given.”

Why did you choose Dog-Gone Capable for your training needs?

“We liked Heather’s personality and plan for training. We wanted some type of e-collar and liked that we could use the same system of e-collar for both our dogs.”

What is your life with your dog like now after training?

“We are a lot smarter about our dogs and their behavior! Both dogs are working well with us with the commands. So much better!
