Let me tell you about my Great Dane Dax. He came to live with us as a pup at 8 weeks of age and we thought we could mold and train him to be like our other Danes had always been, docile, gentle and sweet. We struggled with his training. He was reluctant to obey, stubborn, and too rambunctious to be out of his kennel with our grandchildren. “He is a happy dog,” our vet said, and stated he needed exercise. Well, we tried, but Dax would not cooperate. He would not walk on the lead and the struggle continued.
Then we heard about Heather and Dog-Gone Capable. At that point we were desperate, and considering finding him another home. So as a last resort, Dax went to Dog-Gone Capable for a nine day in-house obedience training package and then we went to pick him up where Heather taught us as well.
Three sessions followed where we went with Dax to training and learned commands and proper leash technique. What a changed dog! He looked at us, waiting for his next command! We could not believe it was the same dog! He would also walk on the road and not be jerking and tugging in fright. We then had Heather come to our home to teach Dax the place command, which taught him to stay or go to his designated mat when we said “place.” This command has been beneficial all of the time. That was one and a half years ago and Dax, while still a happy dog with a fierce wagging tail, still knows his commands and he is able to have supervised fun with the grandchildren. We will be eternally grateful for the training we received from Heather at Dog-Gone Capable. We highly recommend her!
